Backyard Screening Ideas

with No Comments

We all need a place to withdraw from the daily worries and just unwind for a bit. However, in today’s modern world, it can sometimes be hard to find any privacy. Unless you can afford travelling to a desert island every other day, you have to create your own privacy if you want to enjoy it. Luckily, it might not be that hard if you have a garden. With that in mind, here’s how you can turn your backyard into your own private oasis.

Grow a hedge
There are many different types of shrubs, so consider using hedge plants for creating your private paradise. Sure, hedges take a bit of patience, but they can be quite beautiful when shaped properly, and they would make your garden look much more naturalistic. You can mix and combine various shrubs, and don’t be afraid of adding a small tree or two to spice things up. Just make sure to maintain your hedge by shaping it and shearing it regularly.

Install wooden privacy screens
One of the biggest benefits of privacy screens is that they can easily be moved from one area to another. They are also great for adding privacy to a specific part of your yard instead of the entire yard. Moreover, they can be quite stylish. Bamboo screens, for example, are a great option, especially if you’re looking for something a bit more spiritual. They allow natural light to pass through, and they are not hard to make if you have the necessary tools and materials.

Build a pergola
A pergola can’t block your whole yard from view, but it can serve to create a smaller private area. You can cover it with beautiful vines, or you can combine it with hedges or wooden screens on the side and quality commercial shade sails. Add some comfortable furniture, depending on the purpose of your shady nook, and spice it up with more flowers and other decorative elements. This way, by building a smaller enclosure, you’d still feel like you’re in the comfort of an indoor area, but you’d also get a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Layer the plants
Larger plants make a bigger impact, but you should avoid sticking to a single type of plant. If you choose only one type of plant or shrub, you risk losing your entire shelter in just one bad season of pests or disease. Instead, try to build a “thicket” by mixing your usual shrubs with some perennials and evergreens. This way, your yard would be not just more resilient but also more visually attractive, because all the different textures and heights would create a sense of depth.

Use water
Fences, hedges, and plants can absorb some amount of sound, but not all of it. If you want to go one step further and ensure that nobody can eavesdrop on you, consider installing a fountain or waterfall. The sound of water would not only absorb the sounds from your backyard, but it would also create a relaxing atmosphere. A fountain would give your eyes something to rest on, and the water would provide you with a soothing white noise. Just keep in mind that it is possible for a fountain to be too loud, so make sure it is of the right size for your yard.

Sometimes, you just need some time alone to think and relax. Fortunately, building your own private oasis is not as difficult as it might sound. All you need is patience, a bit of effort, and some creativity. So, think about the options, decide on the ones that would fit your yard the best, and you’ll be enjoying your home more than ever before.
